Some fans may be confused as to why the June 2022 free PS Plus games aren’t announced today, but there’s a reason for that.
When it comes to PlayStation Plus, Sony has trained its fans to expect a fairly regular routine. Typically, new PlayStation Plus games are announced on the last Wednesday of the month and then added to the service on the first Tuesday of the following month. However, sometimes the announcement of free PS Plus games does not arrive on the last Wednesday of the month, and this seems to be the case for the free PS Plus games of June 2022.
Some PlayStation Plus subscribers were expecting the announcement of free PS Plus games for June 2022 to happen today, May 25, but they’ll likely be disappointed. It just so happens that the first Tuesday in June is not before June 7th. Next Tuesday is May 31, which means PS Plus subscribers will be waiting a little longer than they anticipated to get their hands on the June 2022 free games.
The reason this happens is that free PS Plus game announcements are based on the first Tuesday of the following month, as opposed to the last Wednesday of the month as it might seem at first glance. So, in situations like this, the announcement of free PS Plus games will most likely take place on the first Wednesday of the following month. This means it’s a safe bet that the announcement of free PS Plus games for June 2022 will take place on Wednesday, June 1, with the games then being added six days later on June 7.
Of course, it’s possible that Sony will shake up the way it advertises free PS Plus games, as the company is set to make some sweeping changes to the service in the near future. The new PS Plus subscription tiers will be introduced in North America on June 13, when subscribers will have three options to choose from: PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium.
PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium will include additional games that will not be retained by subscribers, but will instead be cycled like PlayStation Now games. There will still be monthly free games for PS Plus subscribers to claim, but it’s been suggested that the lineup will include one less game than fans are used to when the changes take place.
Since the launch of the PlayStation 5, PS Plus subscribers have been treated to two PS4 games and one PS5 game each month. However, it was said that there would only be two free PS Plus games given away each month to PS Plus Essential subscribers when the changes were made. It’s possible this change will go into effect with the June 2022 free PS Plus games, but it’s also possible it will wait until July. Subscribers will just have to hang on for more information.
