Virginia Lottery: Players Claim $2 Billion in Online Gambling Prizes

Virginia lottery players have now won over $2 billion playing games online. This milestone was reached more than two years after the lottery first introduced online gambling.

Many familiar and headline-grabbing Virginia lottery games like Mega Millions and Powerball are available online.

Additionally, players can try their hand at over 60 instant games available exclusively online, such as Monopoly Progressive Jackpots and Wheel of Fortune.

Over 300,000 unique players have won prizes while playing online.

The biggest online win to date is a female McLean, who won $2 million playing Powerball.

The majority of online wins have been achieved with instant games.

The biggest prize claimed so far with an instant play was $295,806 by a South Boston man playing the Jungle Tumble Jackpots game. He is one of 31 players who have won prizes of $100,000 or more playing instant games.

“The convenience of playing online has really appealed to Virginia Lottery players as an additional way to play,” said Kelly Gee, executive director of the Virginia Lottery. “Our goal at the lottery is to provide the best customer experience possible, resulting in more sales and profits for our beneficiary – K-12 public education. Online sales contribute to both of these objectives.

Online gambling complements the more familiar method of purchasing lottery tickets from retail stores. The lottery partners with more than 5,300 Virginia businesses to sell tickets. These companies earned more than $138.6 million in commissions and bonuses in the fiscal year that ended June 30.

Online accounts can be created at or through the Virginia Lottery mobile app.
