The three best (and worst) video games of March 2022

3 up, 3 down – March 2022

March 2022 has been such a good month for video games. Almost every major release was as good or better than expected. In fact, our top-rated game of March 2022 might be an all-time genre. There was only one real lemon among the big releases. If there’s a release you’ve been really looking forward to in March, chances are it’s somewhere in the 80/100 range. But here are the three best (and worst) video games of March 2022:

Good

Gran Turismo 7

Our most anticipated video game of March 2022 was also our highest rated video game. Gran Turismo 7 is truly the culmination of all that the series has done best. It’s a simulation with just enough arcade fun to make it a definitive masterpiece of the racing genre. Our only complaint about the game is that it requires a constant online connection, even in single player mode. We still don’t know why any game would require this. Our reviewer wrote “If you think Forza Horizon 5 did well, wait until you’re behind the wheel of your favorite vehicle in Gran Turismo 7”. He plays as perfect as perfect.

The wonders of Tiny Tina

People love Borderlands, and its addictive shooting, collecting, and leveling somehow translated perfectly into a fantasy-themed environment. The voice acting is top notch (despite more than a few jokes that fall flat). The game plays a little safe and has more bugs than we’d like, but its foundation is so solid that we couldn’t be disappointed. Our reviewer summed up “Excellent writing, flawless acting, and frenetic action dominate the game, but exploring the nooks and crannies of the colorful overworld and detailed dungeons is equally satisfying.” Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is exactly what people were hoping for.

Total War: Warhammer 3

Total War: Warhammer 3 is a franchise that is now 3 for 3. This new entry has a lot of quality of life improvements and an exciting story campaign. Although the graphics are good, they definitely prioritize the quantity of units over the quality of the visuals. The only real complaint we have about the game’s launch is that there are too few starting factions. Our reviewer’s financial quote is “every battle is a dark symphony of monsters, mayhem and magic”. RTS fans have a big new one in Total War: Warhammer 3. It’s definitely the surprise entry in The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games of March 2022.
