Sony PlayStation free games ads

According to an IGN report, a report last week claimed that Microsoft’s game console, Xbox, was looking to put ads on its free game offers.

But it turns out Xbox isn’t the only one planning to run ads on free games, according to a recent report from the pay site, Advertising Insider, claims that Sony is also considering it for PlayStation games.

Ads on free PlayStation games will look like real promotional material, including virtual billboards and in-game sports stadiums.

Japanese tech company Sony plans to reward its players by simply viewing ads and other promotions in PlayStation games. The price to watch them ranges interestingly from in-game cosmetics and other virtual items.

Profit from Sony PlayStation Ads

It’s worth noting that while Microsoft is looking to include ads on its free games, it doesn’t expect any revenue cuts.

Instead, Xbox wants to give developers who offer their games for free on the platform an additional opportunity to make a profit.

On the other hand, Sony is reportedly still considering how it will deal with ad revenue, whether it will profit from it, or whether PlayStation will follow the path Microsoft would have taken.

On top of that, the Japanese gaming tech giant would also run a rigorous vetting process to weed out advertisers who collect too much data from its players.

Sony would refuse to work with advertising partners who collect its players’ personal information, including their names and email addresses.

PlayStation Ads Release Date

According to a recent report from Euro Gamer, Sony has been thinking about the free PlayStation games ads project for more than a year, or 18 months to be more precise.

The Japanese console maker plans to roll out ads on free games in the latter part of 2022.

In the meantime, it’s worth adding that a previous report suggested that Microsoft is releasing Xbox game ads in the third quarter of this year.
