It’s no secret that PS More“The hot streak is over. Although the game had some great deals at the start of the year, the past two months have rocked many gamers. For example, the free PS Plus games for October 2021 were Hell Unleashed, Mortal Kombat X, and PGA 2K21 Tour, the latter two not being very appealing games for one reason or another.
As such, many are probably hoping for a better November. Fans may already have known that PS Plus had set up a big November, announcing the standalone GTA Online released as part of its monthly features (but not really what), but this delay means fans are getting something else. However, it doesn’t look like the recent PS Plus news is designed to make its offerings any more compelling, just… more.
Free PS Plus VR games from November 2021
Earlier this month, Sony revealed that it will be giving fans three “bonus” VR games to PS Plus subscribers in November. It’s part of the celebration of PSVR’s fifth anniversary, and it’s certainly exciting for VR fans. This could be a good free way to make it through to PSVR2, especially since the article apparently suggests that these new “bonus” PS Plus VR games are only just starting in November… and will continue thereafter.
As such, fans can reasonably expect a total of six free games in November 2021. Three of them will be PSVR games, while the other three will be the standard selection for PS Plus subscribers: a whole. new PS5 game, two PS4 games. But, given the past couple of months, this might not be as exciting as it sounds, even for VR enthusiasts. Non-VR gamers won’t be invested already, which is reasonable, but that still doesn’t bode well for the overall scheme.
November 2021 PS Plus free games hurt not by VR, but by the number of VR games
PS Plus subscribers know that the service works according to several models. The PS Plus reveal and release date is still the same, the number of games remains constant for months on end, and there are subtle clues whether a new game is a PS Plus title or not. At the same time, late 2019 / early 2020 saw the approach of a great game, a niche gaming offering from PS Plus, while from mid-2020 to mid-2021 saw the release of many games. in anticipation or to celebrate the PS5. Now, while it apparently settles into a “new PS5 game, two PS4 games” model, it is releasing three PSVR games on top of that.
And it is worrying. PS Plus would probably do better, albeit a bit more difficult, to offer one PS5 game, two PS4 games, and one PSVR game each month if the service was able to maintain the variety among the titles, as well as their overall appeal. (think PGA 2K21 Tour appealing only to golf enthusiasts). The point is, PS Plus hasn’t had a good few months, and releasing three more games might suggest a new model for PS Plus: quantity over quality.
And that’s not a good thing. Six games a month that fans don’t really care about, other than maybe the one PS5 game, isn’t a winning strategy. It may be that, since these are separate “bonus” games, fans won’t have to worry about this, but until the appropriate PS Plus reveal for November arrives, this announcement seems more worrying than it should.
PS More subscribers receive a handful of free games each month.
