The Fort Worth Public Library will begin offering cardholders an exciting new selection of nearly 1,500 popular video game titles starting December 18, just in time for the holidays.
The game collection will include titles from the three most popular platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
“We are excited to offer video games as a resource to residents of Fort Worth and hope this encourages new faces and friends to explore their local libraries,” said Fort Worth Public Library Director Manya Shorr. .
The selection – available in each of the 17 library locations – will include popular titles such as Call of Duty and street fighter and will be rated from (E) everyone to (M) for mature. The titles will be placed in various places in a library according to their classification. For example, titles rated E10 + (every 10 years and up) will be in the kids collection – think Sonic-type games. Titles rated T (adolescents) will be in the collection for adolescents and M (adults) will be in the collection for adults.
Why offer video games to the library? The library’s mission is to provide a variety of materials – not just books – in a variety of formats. The Fort Worth Public Library continues to expand its reach to new audiences and find different ways to provide patrons with access to knowledge and experiences, including through board games, STEAM kits, and movies.
Checking a game won’t be any different from checking a book. Users can simply find the title they like, bring it to the cashier to scan, and get ready to play. Patrons can also search the online catalog to find specific titles.
