King to shut down Royal Games online games portal

Site launched in 2004 and originally hosted the largest developer IPs, including Candy Crush

King is shutting down online gaming site Royal Games after 18 years.

The site, formerly, hosted flash versions of some of the developer’s most popular games before they hit mobile, including Candy Crush and Bubble Witch.

Players can continue to access the games on the portal until December 7. After this date, the games will be deleted, but the site will remain open for withdrawal requests until December 7, 2022.

“At the end of 2020, we shared with you an update indicating that due to the evolution of web technology in major browsers, we would be adjusting the gaming services that we are able to offer to gamers,” said the company said in a blog post. “This changing landscape led us to make the difficult decision to close the Royal Games venue.

“It was not an easy decision. As this journey draws to a close, we would like to thank all of you, our dedicated players, for your time at Royal Games. We hope you have had many memorable experiences here, and we hope to see you on one of our other platforms. “

In June, Royal Games was investigated by PayPal into its business practices in certain countries, and a withdrawal freeze in the process prevented customers from withdrawing their winnings from the site.
