Strategy geeks and storytelling nerds rejoice. It’s time to dive into this week’s selection of free games and the best additions to the subscription services you’re already paying for. There’s a solid variety here, and some will have you stuck for weeks if you’re not careful.
That’s right, we’ve got some real treats this week in our free games column, from all sorts of genres and consoles. It’s all here, so you better check it out to see if they tickle your fancy.
There’s bound to be some sort of freebie available on this list to wet your whistle, so let’s get straight to it.
Total War: Warhammer III is available NOW
It’s time to strategize. Total War: Warhammer 3 is available now on Xbox and PC Game Pass, and looks extremely exciting for Warhammer and RTS fans. I haven’t played the series since Shogun 2so maybe it’s time to come back to it.
Phil’s review speaks of the game in glowing terms, so I defer to the expert.
“Like any high-level strategy game, it’s easy to get lost in Total War: Warhammer 3, wasting hours, days and weekends waging war on the colonies of the Old World. It truly feels like an epic conclusion to a storyline that took many years to build, and that resolution alone will be a powerful selling point for fans of the show.”
Not a series fan? Don’t worry – Phil was still “very involved” in the script as a newcomer, and praised Warhammer III as a “sensational strategic experience”. I might just be sold on this one to be honest.

Brothers: The tale of two sons tells an epic fairy tale
Want a free adventure game? No problem. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is the debut game from director Josef Fares, who went on to helm award-winning games like Output and It takes two.
It is also free on the Epic Games Store this week!
Fares clearly has a penchant for unconventional control schemes, but it might be even more unique than the cooperative split-screen of Output and It takes two. Here you control two brothers at the same time – a single player cooperative game. By controlling a brother by controller, you will embark on a vast adventure to save your father from imminent death.
It’s a short game, only lasting a few hours, so it should be worth a try if you like adventure games with an emotional and touching core.
Fighting dinosaurs with sticks in ARK: Survival Evolved
Now for something completely different! did you play ARK: Survival Evolved before? Well, maybe it’s time to start PC and Xbox Game Pass. You will receive the Ark: Ultimate Survivor Editionwhich contains the original game, the Ark: Genesis Season Passand the Ark: Survival Evolved Season Pass. It’s a hell of a lot of content.
Dropped naked on the shores of an island you know nothing about, it’s up to you to survive in a world that seems to be out to get you. There are gruesome dinosaurs you can craft into useful weapons, resources to collect and build bases, and an absolutely huge world to explore, making this an extremely exciting prospect for those of you who enjoy being chased by. beasts far bigger and stronger than yourselves.
Edge Of Eternity will take at least 30 hours out of your week to complete
But hey, maybe you’re not happy with a deep story or incredibly low chances of survival. Maybe you want both. Well, there it is : edge of eternity.
Released in 2021, edge of eternity is the JRPG experience you’ve been missing since the last JRPG you played. There are turn-based battles, exquisite hairstyles, and a story in which you must find a cure for capital corrosion. It is free on Xbox and PC Game Pass and if you’re thinking about value for money, it certainly has that on its side, averaging just over 30 hours for the main story according to HowLongToBeat.
If you’re a fan of the JRPG genre or looking for one to dive into, you could easily do worse than edge of eternity free!
That’s all for today! What’s planned for your weekend? I just got out of a four day week, so I’m going to be frantically looking around, confused as to why it’s the weekend right now. I can not wait.
Because Brothers is quite short, I’ll need something else to whet my gaming appetite too. It might be one of those weekends where I turn on a sports game like crazy Where Fifa, blink, then realize that ten hours have passed. Or maybe, just maybe, this will be the week I finally find myself engrossed in The Witcher 3. Come to think of it, I still haven’t seen season 2 of the Netflix show, and I have RuPaul’s Drag Race Catch up.
Blimey, it’s going to be long. Enjoy!
