Every Thursday at 10:00 a.m. CT, the Epic Games Store offers new free games. For the past few weeks, the Epic Games Store has been giving away one free game every week instead of the usual two, but on Thursday, May 12, it’ll be back to give away two free games.
Right now, the Epic Games Store free game is Terraform Mars. Terraform Mars, for the uninitiated, is a digital version of the board game which, as the name suggests, is all about terraforming Mars. Its status as a digital board game means it’s likely to be quite specialized, but there’s no harm in Epic Games Store users claiming it and giving it a shot. After all, free games from Epic Games Store are completely free, with no strings attached.
On May 12 at 10:00 a.m. CT, Terraform Mars will be replaced by two new free Epic Games Store games. The first is Jotun: Valhalla Editionwhich is an action game with a hand-drawn art style. jotun received mostly positive reviews from critics, so it’s definitely worth checking out for Epic Games Store users next week.
Epic Games Store Free Games for May 2022
- Terraforming Mars (May 5 – May 12)
- Jotun: Valhalla Edition (May 12 – May 19)
- Prey (May 12 – May 19)
However, the Epic Games Store free game headlining May 12 is definitely Prey. A sci-fi FPS reboot Prey series, Prey was developed by Arkane Studios and compared favorably to games like BioShock and Dishonored. Prey is certainly one of the best-known free games on the Epic Games Store, but it may seem familiar to some users of the service. After all, it’s not the first time that Prey was a free Epic Games Store game.
The Epic Games Store is known to host free games from time to time, where it offers a game that it has already offered for free in the past. This is the case with the Prey reboot when it’s made free for Epic Games Store users to claim on May 12. Why exactly this is happening is unclear, but the Epic Games Store isn’t the only one offering a free “replay” game this month.
The Xbox Free Games with Gold for May 2022 also includes a replay game, as it includes Hydro Thunder Hurricanea game that was first offered to Gold subscribers in 2017. So while dedicated users of these services may be a bit disappointed by the double dip, those who missed out the first time will likely appreciate the ability to add these games to their collections.
